An Elegant Highland Wedding at Achnagairn Castle

Set in the Scottish Highlands, a wedding at Achnagairn Castle & Estate offers a beautifully secluded setting, where historic character meets a softer, more contemporary elegance. For Rebecca and Greg, their wedding at Achnagairn Castle was the perfect way to bring everyone together for a multi-day celebration shaped by meaning, creativity, and a shared love of Scotland.
Travelling from England, with Rebecca’s grandparents based nearby in the Highlands, the location felt especially fitting - a place that connected both their story and the people closest to them.
A Wedding Inspired by Place and Memory in the Scottish Highlands
Much of the inspiration for their day came from the Scottish landscape itself, from the rugged coastlines of the Hebridean Islands to the softer, atmospheric beauty of the Highlands.
Rebecca and Greg got engaged on Luskentyre Beach, during a trip to explore the Isle of Harris and the Outer Hebrides. Rebecca’s grandfather later painted the scene as an engagement gift, and it was displayed at the castle on the day, a beautiful detail that felt both personal and quietly powerful within the setting.
Subtle references to Scotland appeared throughout their wedding day, from handfasting during the ceremony to table details inspired by meaningful places, including Luskentyre itself. Shells were used as place settings, adding another gentle nod to the coastline that had shaped so much of their story.
With a background in the arts, Rebecca brought a thoughtful, creative eye to the overall feel of the wedding, which carried through in a natural and understated way.
A Wedding Cake Inspired by the Scottish Coastline
When Rebecca first got in touch, she mentioned they had almost decided not to have a wedding cake at all, until coming across my work and feeling drawn to a coastal-inspired design I had previously created.
From there, the design evolved into something much more personal.
Taking inspiration from Luskentyre Beach and her grandfather's painting, the cake reflected a soft, coastal palette - muted sands, gentle sea blues and turquoises, and subtle tonal marbling. Textural elements were introduced to echo the organic patterns found in nature, creating a sense of airy movement across the tiers.
There were also more subtle references layered in, including tones inspired by Harris gin - a small but meaningful nod to something they both love, and to Scotland’s craftsmanship more broadly.
Set within the ballroom, the cake naturally drew attention, not in a statement way, but as something guests could quietly admire as part of the setting.
The cake felt naturally connected to the wider story of the day, sitting effortlessly within its surroundings and reflecting their connection to place.

A Wedding Celebration Rooted in Scottish Detail
The celebrations began the evening before, with a more relaxed gathering where Rebecca wore a custom tartan design by Siobhan Mackenzie - a modern interpretation of Scottish heritage that set the tone for the days that followed.
Across the wedding itself, thoughtful details were woven throughout, from the handfasting to a traditional Scottish Quaich ceremony, each element adding another layer of meaning without ever feeling overdone.
Extending the Celebrations Beyond the Wedding Day
The ballroom at Achnagairn Castle provided a beautiful backdrop for the wedding cake, allowing its softer tones and textures to contrast and sit comfortably within the space without competing with it.

The celebrations continued into the following day, where the cake became part of a more relaxed gathering at a local distillery. Rather than being served during the wedding day itself, it was enjoyed more intentionally the following day, allowing it to remain both a focal point and something to be properly shared with guests.
It was photographed alongside a bottle of whisky bottled on their wedding day, an unexpected detail that became even more meaningful when Rebecca discovered a family connection to the distillery’s past.

The Wedding Cake Experience
It was a real pleasure to work with Rebecca and Greg throughout the process, from the early ideas through to their finished design.
“It was an absolute dream working with Alison from start to finish. She took all of our ideas and transformed them into the most beautiful and delicious cake… Alison took inspiration from the beautiful Scottish scenery and poured her creativity into a cake that was as beautiful to look at as it was to taste… Thank you so much for making the journey to Achnagairn Castle and for being such a wonderful and supportive supplier.”

“It’s not just a cake, it’s an anchor to the present moment - a reminder to share everything, but to also make space for the things that feed the soul.” - Rebecca
